Paul is a McDonald's All-American in high school. He attended Wake Forest University for 2 years of university basketball when he helped the Demon Deacons achieve their first ever number one position. He had been picked fourth all round on the 2005 NBA draft by the New Orleans Hornets and traded into the Clippers in 2011.
At December 8, 2011, the Hornets accepted a three-team deal transferring Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers. A NBA, who owned the team at the time, nullified the offer, along with commissioner David Stern claiming New Orleans would be better off keeping Paul.The teams involved in the deal in tried out to negotiate the league to change its ruling and reconstruct the deal does not help.On December 12, the Hornets accepted a trade sending Paul into the Los Angeles Clippers, even so the deal broke down following the NBA added additional demands to the original terms. 2 days further, the teams at long last made the trade, transferring Paul and two future second stage draft picks for the Clippers for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, plus the Minnesota Timberwolves' unprotected first round pick within the 2012 draft. Upon the deal's conclusion, Paul announced which he would opt to the final year for his agreement and stay in Los Angeles for at least 2 more seasons.
